I am new to the Bismarck area and just looking for a close body of water to punch a few holes in. Currently I have to wait for the weekends before I take the long road trip to the water I know. Any suggestions?

There are only a few lakes around the Bismarck area to fish in the winter. Sweet Briar is only about thirty miles west of mandan, there is crown butte out there too, but I haven't seen anyone fishing that all year. To the north there is New Johns but thats still about an hours drive and then further north is the big lake and Audobon.  To the east there is Long lake, but you can only fish on that tell dark, I'm not sure of anything else out there. Now the river is another area, alot of the back water areas you can ice fish, where the heart meets the missouri at fort lincoln I used to fish that all the time. Once everything opens up the fishing in bismarck is no more then a five minute drive anywhere. Hope this helps you out a little bit
