Sounds like a call out to snow!

I wouldn't mind doing something similar in the future.  Would be fun to just be taken fishing instead of doing all the decision making, etc.  It wears a guy out!

Arneson's Rocky Point Resort is a very nice place.  Fished out of there several times.  typically earlier and we did a lot of jigging on reefs.

There are also some very good places up on the Angle.  That can be a totally different kind of fishing.  Last year we fished out of Sages Angle Resort.  Wow!  Great people and super fishing.  It was exclusively jigging reefs in Ontario waters.

Some co-workers fished out of Fisherman's Lodge.  Very good accomodations and the fishing was good.  Personally, downrigging sounds extremely boring.  They came back thinking a half day of that kind of fishing is enough.

You could start fishing at Springsteel Resort near Warroad and circle the lake to the east and you wouldn't be back to Spingsteel by freeze up, it's a big lake with lots of resorts. Fished there my entire life in all three parts, Minnesota, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Starting at Warroad, Springsteel Resort has everything you are looking for, or you could go east to Arnesons Rocky Point which offers basically the same thing with maybe better accommodations. After that you have Zippel Bay Resort which would also fit your needs. Further east you end up in the Baudette area, lots of big open water fishing with downriggers that time of year and great night life if that's your bag. Go further east you're in Ontario and I'd recommend starting in the Emo area and working up to Kenora. Island fishing and if beautiful scenery turns your crank you won't find anything better anywhere else. That includes the Northwest Angle which is all the way around the lake, still in Ontario north of Warroad/Roseau.

Myself, I fish Buffalo Bay, the Manitoba portion of LOW. Best most consistent fishing on the lake hands down, and I've fished it all at one time or another. Shallow water fishing all summer, nice sand beach, we routinely fish 4' - 5' of water in August and have great luck. Or pulling cranks in 18' - 20' of water also from last weekend until freeze up.

Check out some websites of resorts in these areas and you'll find something you like. If you have questions about specific areas or resorts I can try help.
 

I haven't went up there for 3 years, but I camped at Springsteel Resort for opener 4 years in row, it is worth checking into; has everything you mentioned and is a great location from Warroad and for being on the water. Most years were long weekends but the last time I spent a week and half there, Good Times !!!

Here ya go http://www.borderviewlodge.com/ fished sportsmans,wig wam,wheelers point,summer and winter,border view is clean,quiet and all around great folks and know the lake as well as anyone.August isn't the best time to go for eyes but they'll put you on fish,that time of year you most likely will be "down rigging" and cover alot of ground.In august the big pike and muskies will be on the feed,the lake has been on fire since last year,both hard and open water.Check out their site and email Mike,the owner,tell him the "trap shooter from the cities sent ya"

Looked around and decided on Cyrus Resort. (mainly because of the lady). Looks like a great place! Thanks all for you input.
