2010 Red Baron WCHA Final Five • Xcel Energy Center • Saint Paul, MN

Games for Friday, March 19: Semi-Final: No. 3 St. Cloud State (22-12-5) vs No. 2 Wisconsin (24-9-4), 2:07 pm CT (TV - FS North); Semi-Final: Thursday’s Winner vs No. 1 Denver (27-7-4), 7:07 pm CT (TV - FS North).

Games for Saturday, March 20: Third Place Game, 2:07 pm CT (TV - FS North); Broadmoor Trophy Championship Game, 7:07 pm CT (TV - FS North).

It would be great to go against Denver and beat them although out of all the teams out there on the national level they scare me the most they seem to have our number this year.

I always want the Sioux to win …however…. a loss at this point wouldn’t be such a bad thing...I think it was the '04 season Denver loses first round series but still makes NCAA...goes on to beat the Sioux I think it was like a 1-0 win...and continues on to the NCAA title....three games two weeks in a row may gas the team a bit for a good run at the national title....or the way we play it may be nice to keep things rolling I think Thursdays game will be a good indicator of our NCAA hopes. UMD is a good team.

I know I'm asking a lot but could the WCHA refs please, please, please get on the same page ?!?  I've watched a lot of hockey this year and this last weekend was one of the worst officiating I've ever seen...there was just no consistency...no calls then calls that usually are no calls...dives...offsides and even that too many men on the ice call late Saturday ??? really ??? Hockey's Hockey and this is playoffs LET THEM PLAY !!!

GO SIOUX !!!!

Good luck Sue. Duluth will spank your heines!!!!!!
Gophers had a poor season. Thanks for ending the misery.
My only satisfaction will be watching the sue lose to good teams.

ha...ha...ha...rodent fan !!!!!

yes UMD is a good team but this SIOUX team that only loses to good teams swept the Bulldogs a month ago 5-1 and 5-2 and we split in Dulth with our loss being by one goal. The only team that has owned us this year has been DU...4 wins...and their #1 in the nation we've tied or beat every other top 20 team we played this season....and after this weekend this team would love to get another crack at Denver......psst one more thing WE'RE STILL PLAYING !!!!!

Any time you have a Shepherd involved in the reffing, there will be no rhyme or reason for what the whistle may be for.    I watched 5 years of hockey at UND in the late 70's early 80's where a Shepherd was involved and still shake my head.  Guess where he is now?   Supervisor of refferees and I believe it is his son who is reffing currently and last weekend in the WCHA.   So it will never end until we get rid of that name in Hockey.    Like father like son.

OK first of all go find a dictionary and look up the spelling of Sioux. It can also be spelled Gopher killer. UND has the ability to hang with any team in the NCAA. Wether they do or not is left to be determined. UMD is a good team this year and it will be some good hockey. It could easily go either way.

Frattin got a one game suspension from the WCHA.  He won't play Thursday against Duluth.

Rumor on Siouxsports is that Gleason suffered a significant injury blocking a shot.  Maybe season ending?  No official word but the guy that broke that rumor also indicated the Frattin suspension hours before the actual announcement of the Frattin suspension.

There's a thread on siouxsports discussing it all.

Im not sure hakstol would be too dissapointed to get beat this coming weekend. The Sioux will for sure play to win, but, they are in the big dance and thats what they have their sites set on. getting banged up this weekend isnt always a win/win deal for a team playing this well late in the season.

If the Sioux can find a way to finish on offense, look-out.! They are dominating play right now, goal tending is excellent, defense is gelling as well. This team has something they have lacked in the frozen four of late, Team SPEED! something teams from the east feed off and if you dont have wear you out. i really like this young sioux team.

I agree Archer.  It wouldn't be all that bad to let them get some healing time.  To win the WCHA is going to be tough and those games will be hard fought.  Expecially since the WCHA is the toughest in all of college hockey and has the most top ranked teams.  I've watched the hit over and over on youtube and still can't really see why this was given to him.  At a lower level of hockey, maybe yes for not playing the puck.  But if you watch college hockey at all you'll see almost every time two players have the puck between them along the boards they take the body and not the puck.  It's what you're taught to do.  The only reason the hit actually ended up so hard was Wehrs tried to chicken out and pull back instead of going for it and Frattin wasted him.  The only thing I really saw wrong with the hit is that it was on Wehrs instead of Mr. Perma Whine daddy's boy Lucia.

OK, now that I am calmed down from this weekend,  I will say good luck to all you Sue fans. The outcome this weekend was not in my favor so I gently bow my head and take my hat off till next year.

As for Fattin or Frattin or whatever his name is; you are a real piece of crap! If you Sue fans want to bash me about that, go for it, true malious on his part. I agree that there were alot of no calls / bad calls on BOTH sides but that type of play is highly unacceptable in my opinion. Wilfull intention to injure a player should warrant more than a one game riding the bench. AND YES, I would say the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

Once again, I wish you the best of luck.....till next year!
Good Luck and Good Fishin'

Frattin's hit was textbook charging.  Pretty hard to argue that one.  Argue all you want about leaving his feet, it still comes down to distance traveled, violence of the hit and not playing the puck.

I didn't go look for suspension rules in the college hockey rule book but the NHL rules are clear in black and white.  Charges that result in injury are automatic suspensions.  I'd find it hard to believe that college hockey isn't as strict.

I've heard the explanation from some true diehard Sioux hockey fans whose knowledge of the game I respect 100%.  The suspension was expected in Grand Forks.  They knew it was coming so the calls Monday from the WCHA were not a surprise.

I DON'T think Frattin is a dirty player.  He is physical and this happens.  If Wehrs doesn't get concussed, he is likely playing Thursday.  Didn't turn out that way.

If anyone needs tickets or a room.  I have two tickets for all 5 games at CLUB LEVEL section C12 row 4 seat 3 and 4  going for less than face value  $150/ea.  Also have one two-bed room at Holiday inn across from the X.  Asking for ACTUAL value = $177/nt for thurs, fri, sat = $530 total.
Sucks that Frattin is out but we will win thurs without him - then he will be fresh for Denver friday night.

Watch this hit closely. Frattin's feet did not leave the ice until way after he made contact. His hands were not up in Wehrs face on purpose. Wehrs was a wuss and backed down before the hit and thats why Frattin's hands hit Wehr's head. AND Frattin was in stride from the bottom of the circles before when he hit Wehrs. When Frattin is coming in the zone skating hard and then notices a player with the puck, you cant tell me any hockey player wouldnt take that hit. If anything it should have been an interference call because Wehrs did not have possession of the puck.

Walynut said: "Wilfull intention to injure a player"   Are you kidding me? There was no intent to injure. I know Frattin well enough to know he does not have that hit to hurt attitude. When you play hockey you always look to hit, especially big hits. It is called a check and the game is hockey.

I believe the only piece of crap on this forum is Walynut's post!

Wehrs got hurt…that’s too bad but you had two players going hard to the puck problem is Wehrs wussed out and instead of manning up and hitting Frattin back he basically let Frattin hit him. I was there I saw the play from three rows back…was there intent to injure, NO was it a hard physical play YES. This was not a cheap shot or a shot from behind…it was two hockey players going for the puck Frattin manned up and Wehrs did not as a result Wehrs was injured

It was charging.  Frattin admitted that he was not going for the puck.  He was going for the big hit.  Read the thread on siouxsports.  The diehard fans on there recognize it.  Nobody who steps on the ice should ever be called a wuss.  I think Wehrs saw that Frattin was coming and he was not in any position to defend himself.  Watch the tape.  He started out going for the puck.  Frattin never made any attempt to go for the puck and he said that publicly.  I won't go so far as to say it was dirty because he was playing hard and trying to fire up his team but it was illegal by definition.  The league suspended him because it was charging and an opponent got injured.  Seriously, if it had been the other way around, would you really see it the same?  NEVER.
